Laura V. Hale Archives

Laura Virginia Hale Archives

The Warren Heritage Society established the Archives in 1980 when the Society occupied Ivy Lodge as its headquarters. The collection was originally housed in a secured section of the exhibits area. In 1982 the Society obtained Belle Boyd Cottage and moved it to 101 Chester Street, to the rear of Ivy Cottage. Belle Boyd Cottage was originally located behind the Strickler Hotel on Main Street (now the home of Second Chance). Once Belle Boyd was restored, archival facilities were constructed at the rear of the Cottage. Once installed in new quarters, the collection began a period of impressive growth. The core collections are those developed by local historian Laura Virginia Hale and local genealogist Laura Rebecca Good. The Hale collection may be accessed through a card catalog located in the Reading Room. The Good Collection consists mostly genealogical in nature, and these are filed in alphabetical order by family name. Other collections may be accessed through our Finding Aids or though one of the staff.
